Healthcare Reform in one Paragraph…

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Short. Simple. To the point.

I’ve said this before but what the hell: When people say they want “health care reform,” they all mean the same thing. They all want better service than they’re receiving now and they want to pay less money for it. In other words, they want the government to subsidize them. Which means they want some other taxpayer partly paying their expenses.

I’m not against the government getting involved in healthcare specifically, I’m against the government getting involved in anything it can avoid. Admittedly, there are problems (preexisting conditions, insurance tied to employment, other stuffs too) with our current system but addressing those problems seems to be only a starting point for throwing the entire system under the bus in a move to get the government more involved.

I don’t care what it is, I dont’ want the government more involved.

From the Department of the Obvious

Why do we swear when we’re in pain? Cuz it hurts. Turns out the swearing makes it hurt less. I think we all knew that, that’s why we do it.

Hope Change and Bugs Bunny

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Jeh Johnson, the Defense Department’s chief lawyer, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that releasing a detainee who has been tried and found not guilty was a policy decision that officials would make based on their estimate of whether the prisoner posed a future threat.

It’s not that I disagree with the position. It’s that somehow I feel like I’m in one of those Bugs Bunny cartoons where Bugs and Daffy are going back and forth and
Bugs suddenly changes the sides everyone is on and I’m the only that noticed…

The State Budget

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m not normally a fan of the governor, but I think is one area where he’s got it right.

I’m not sure what I think about PJTV either…time will tell I guess.

Suppressing reports that don’t agree with the approved narrative…

So I’ve Been Lazy

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

It’s what I do best…

Some things I’ve failed to discuss:

Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court
Confirm her. No I probably won’t like the way she rules on things, but the President gets to nominate, and barring some sort of obviously disqualifying something or other, the nomination should be approved. Yes I know if one side fights every single nomination and the other side concedes that elections matter, it unbalances the playing field. Still, elections matter.

North Korea
Nothing new to see here, move along please. The world has been postponing dealing with this regime for longer than I’ve been alive. That’s probably been the best solution (unless of course, you happen to live in North Korea), but eventually someone somewhere is going to have to deal with it. It’s going to be ugly, and unpopular when it happens, but it’s going to be necessary nonetheless.

Iran
See comments about North Korea Elections matter. Or at least they should matter. We should push for a simple, people cast votes, votes get counted, people trust the results, elections matter. Yes we could stand a bit of that here at home too.

Stanley Cup
I guess the NHL building it’s marketing campaign on the shoulders of Sid the Kid is working out OK.

Dallas Stars
I like Dave Tippet, always have. Like Joe Nieuwendyk as well. Marc Crawford, well he’s been the coach in Colorado and L.A. so it’s not been acceptable to like him. But now that he’s the Star’s coach all seems well. I’m surprised that the Stars stuck with Tippet as long as they did given how rare a decent playoff run has been lately, even though I don’t think he’s responsible for the lack of success.

I’d make some sort of lame comment about posting more, but this is me we’re talking about.

Tea Party Thoughts…

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Currently there is no fiscally responsible party in U.S. politics. There’s plenty of interest in playing the game, check out this neat little press release from Nancy Pelosi just a couple of years ago hammering President Bush for his unbalanced budget.

The glimmer of hope in all of this is for this tea party movement to grow enough to create a third party (not something I expect) or to be a significant enough voice that the current players have to pay attention.

A small thought for the ADD generation…

Even if you’re getting a tax break now, or benefiting from a stimulus package, take another look at this chart.

It Reeks of Hope and Change

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

See what you then get from people who find the facts “unimaginable”: almost no debate on the global warming that has actually stopped, the “stolen generations” no one can actually find and the kissy new redeemer Obama who actually sounds just like old George Bush.

Good Intentions

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Sometimes completely miss the point…

What I’m looking for is a system where everyone is required to find my behavior acceptable no matter what I do. If I could get them to approve of it to the point where they felt compelled to provide monetary rewards…so much the better.

The 25 DVD Gift Pack

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Evidently President Obama give the British Prime Minister a gift pack of 25 DVDs…

The question obviously is which movies did he pick? I’m not going to list my entire 25 guesses, but I’m going to start with…

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Robin Hood
and of course
Robin Hood Men in Tights
